How can you remain optimistic and still be realistic when caring for a disabled child? Leeza Gibbons and Dr. Jamie Huysman share with us the story of Andy and Laura Griswold and there six-year-old son who is developmentally disabled. "My saving grace has been working together as a couple, and our family is in the area," says Andy. According to Dr. Jamie Huysman, caregivers experience a lot of fear. There is fear of the unknown, but mainstreaming is the biggest cause of fear. The Griswolds have another son 16 months younger who has taught his disabled brother many skills. After initial misgivings, mainstreaming for the Griswolds has worked beautifully.
