A blanket could be a castle. A box a rocket to the moon. Or a sofa a pirate ship. Pretend play is just as important as math or science. And when kids are allowed to make believe, they become more expressive and socially interactive. So encourage pretend play. If a towel can turn into a super hero cape, imagine what a box filled with old clothes, craft paper, fabric, markers and glue can do. Reading is the ultimate way to inspire creativity. Ask them to recreate scenes from their favorite book and see what happens. And make sure you join in on the fun. Adults need to remember what it was like to pretend. It's great for the spirit and also a lot of fun. Your kids might just inspire you too.
