"About a month-and-a-half ago I woke up and I knew something was not right with my wife. I told the doctor I could no longer take care of her the way she ought to be taken care of," says Alfred whose wife suffered a stroke. He had already been caretaker for the past two years and realized he needed to turn to a nursing home. "I was depressed about this, but I didn't want my wife to know. My stomach bothered me and I couldn't relax. She was trying her best and I love her for that," Alfred says. "This is the hardest decision anyone has to make," says Dr. Jamie Huysman, psychologist and co-founder of Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation. "In this situation, it's important to remember the three C's. Communicate with the patient, communicate with the family and communicate with the nursing facility. It's also important to find outside resources," says Dr. Jamie.
