"My daughter has a genetic abnormality and needs a lot of extra care," says Deanna. Family life for those with special needs children can be a difficult balancing act. "The best advice I received from my doctor was to spend guilt-free, equal time with all my children," she says. Psychologist Dr. Jamie Huysman, cofounder of Leeza's Place, says, "Parenting is tough. It's about being fair and consistent with your children. Involving all the kids in family efforts creates cooperation."
