Home Safety: Kids Corner
Aired on Lifetime Television Sunday, January 28 and March 11, 2007 Show 404
If a fire ever started in your home, would your family know where to find two safe exits? Or where you should meet? Home safety is critical to keep your family safe. And the more you practice your fire safety drill, the better prepared you'll be. Create a safety checklist with your family and review it once a month. Safety in the kitchen is also important. If you have younger children, it's important to keep cleaning products or medicines out of reach, and child locks on all cabinets and drawers. When you're cooking keep pots on the back burners and handles turned in. And knives and utensils should always be put away. Bathroom safety is next. Safe Kids Worldwide recommends setting your home's water thermostat to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or less. And just like in the kitchen, keep child locks on all medicine cabinets. Even with all the planning and preparing, accidents can still happen. And emergency phone numbers can be tough for a child to remember. Put them by every phone in the house, so they'll always be handy and your kids will always be ready. A safe home is a happy home.
