Organ Donations: Health Story

Aired on Lifetime Television
Sunday, January 28 and March 11
Show 404

"There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him," says Connie Payton about her husband, Walter, a Chicago Bears running back who died in 1999 at 45. "He had primary sclerosing cholangitis and was waiting for a liver transplant, but died of cancer before he could receive one," she says. More than 93,000 people are on the national waiting list for organs, and only 8,000 organ donors. "There is a huge discrepancy between available organs and needed organs," say Colleen McCarthy, of the Wisconsin Donor Network. Now Connie's mission is raising organ donor awareness everywhere. "If I can save one life, then it's worth it," she says.
