"My 66-year-old husband has Alzheimer's. Hospitals are upsetting situations because he feels afraid and disoriented and the nurses don't totally take this into account," says Bev. "You can't just hand an Alzheimer's patient a button and expect them to push it for help," she says. Psychologist Dr. Jamie Huysman agrees. "Even if you have a patient advocate, they might not know your family's special circumstances or subtle nuances. Gather your family for support. Remember, you aren't alone," he says.
