When fun is created for your children by simply hitting an on-switch, it's no wonder they can never pull themselves away. But will they know how to create their own fun when the power goes out? It's time to turn the electronics off and fire up those imaginations. Start with some creative warm up exercises like writing in a journal. Ask them to jot down any story ideas that pop into their heads, and don't just stop at writing. They can doodle, draw pictures, maps, or make collages. Board games can be a great way to get the family together. But remember the rules aren't written in stone. Ask your kids to come up with their own set of directions. Sometimes your kids just need a little inspiration. Turn on your favorite piece of classical music and ask them to paint a picture or write a poem about how the music makes them feel. You're never too old to use your imagination, especially if it means a little relaxation time at the end of the day.
