"I wasn't taking care of myself," says heart attack survivor Terry Schuster. Almost one half of Americans over the age of twenty have high cholesterol. "Having high cholesterol is a perfect set up for heart disease," says Dr. Donnica Moore. One million Americans have heart attacks every year. It's the number one killer. "There's LDL, bad cholesterol which you want to keep low and HDL, good cholesterol which you want to keep high," says Dr. Michael Roizen, author of the Real Age book series. "Statins are powerful drugs that lower bad cholesterol," says Dr. Thomas Behrenbeck, a cardiologist at Mayo Clinic. Cardiologist Dr. Randy Thomas advises heart attack survivors to also change their diet and to exercise. Both can lower cholesterol levels and be used especially preventively. After his heart attack, Terry says, "I changed my entire lifestyle."
