"What is so nutritious about fruits and vegetables?" ask Dr. Lisa. "Plants contain chemicals that have healing potential," says Kim Dalzell, nutritionist and author of Challenge Cancer and Win. "Nutrition is very closely related to cancer, and a correct diet depends on what kind of cancer you have. For example, calcium fights colon cancer, yet on the other hand prostrate cancer is caused by a diet with too much calcium," she says. "Does food lose nutrients by being cooked?" asks Dr. Lisa. "Surprisingly, it depends on the food. Blueberries are more nutritious raw, but tomatoes are better when cooked," says Kim. "Nutritional therapy can give you an extra edge either preventatively or to fight cancer."
