"The National Safe Kids Campaign is a nonprofit organization started in 1987 by Johnson and Johnson which stresses the importance of safety for kids in sixteen countries," says its Director, Angela Mickalide, PhD. "You have a saying about safety. What is it?" asks Dr. Lisa. "We're aiming for safe kids at home, at play and on the way," says Angela. "Everyone should have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in their homes and medicine and household cleaners should be properly stored. At play, kids need to be actively supervised. Pools should have a fence completely surrounding them. When appropriate, helmets and flotation devices are very important. Injuries from motor vehicle accidents are the leading killer of children. Kids should always be secured correctly in a car seat or with a seat belt. Injuries are preventable," Angela emphasizes.
