Can the body's own immune system fight cancer? Surprisingly, the answer is yes. "Cancer spreads like an infection, so why couldn't we use the immune system to arrest it?" asks Dr. Jedd Wolchock of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Immunotherapy was discovered in the 1890s. More research is needed, but already trial vaccines are being tested with success. Later, Dr. Lisa is warmed by the optimism of Paul Decker, lung cancer survivor and board member of the American Cancer Society. In this Health Corner, we meet a congenitally deaf and enthusiastic recipient of a cochlear implant. Then, Alex Boylan meets Chef Jean-Marie Lacroix in the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia where Jean-Marie grills cod with braised cabbage. Jill Repp counsels parents to let their kids help plan their school lunches. Plus, Florida Perry Smith on simple ways to maintain a healthy body image.
