"We can no longer see fitness as a fad," says Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper, father of aerobics and founder, president and CEO of the Cooper Institute for Aerobics in Dallas, Texas. The word "aerobics" was born at Cooper. This 30 acre center is world renowned for pioneering research on fitness and nutrition. Their research has bridged the gap between faddism and scientific legitimacy and documented the fact that exercise increases lifespan. "It's much easier and cheaper to maintain than regain fitness," Dr. Cooper says. The Cooper Aerobics Center has trained astronauts, soldiers and top athletes. Dr. Cooper is George Bush's personal physician. "I try to practice what I preach. Keeping things in order physically and spiritually has enabled us to have success," says Dr. Cooper.
