Can the brain move a prosthetic limb merely through thought? It seems like a page out of a science fiction novel, but the answer is yes. "We let nerves grow into the muscles and make new connections. Then the brain can direct the nerves," says Dr. Todd Kuiken, Director of the Amputee Program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Later, Dr. Lisa talks with Dr. Kenneth Cooper, founder of the Cooper Aerobics Center about how the obesity epidemic in children commands attention. "We need to concentrate on children," says Dr. Cooper. "This is the first generation where parents may outlive their kids," he adds. In this Health Corner, we meet Mary Savoye, dietician and Director of the Bright Bodies Weight Management Program, a superb program that is successfully helping obese kids through diet and exercise. "We take a family approach to eating healthy," says Mary. Then, Alex Boylan revisits Chef Patrick O'Connell at The Inn in Little Washington, Virginia where Patrick creates a tropical chilled crab salad with avocado and mango. Jill Repp recommends being consistent when teaching kids good manners. Plus, Florida Perry Smith on fabulous professional skin care at home.
