Staying Motivated: Fit in a Minute
Aired on Lifetime Television Sunday, April 30 and August 13, 2006 Show 312
There are many excellent ways to stay motivated with your exercise program. Most of them focus on fighting boredom and avoiding disappointment. Start by choosing an exercise you truly enjoy. If treadmills or stationary bikes bore you, then get outside. Try hiking, climbing, or walking. If you don't like an activity, chances are you'll find an excuse not to do it. Even the most exciting activity can get old after a few weeks, so mix it up. Tennis today; swim tomorrow. And you'll be happier and less likely to skip if you exercise with a friend. You know, exercise isn't just for the gym. Find little ways throughout the day to increase your activity level. Get off the bus a stop early. Walk to the grocery store. Take the stairs instead of the escalator. Be realistic; set attainable goals. If you hardly ever exercise, don't expect to suddenly exercise everyday. That will only lead to discouragement. If you exercise more this week than last, you're doing great!
