Are adolescent mood swings dangerous? "Yes, if they last for more than two weeks, parents should take note," advises Cheryl King PhD, Director of the Child and Adolescent Depression Program at the University of Michigan. "Most parents don't recognize depression until problems are most severe," she says.
Later, Dr. Lisa speaks with Dr. Peter M. Lake, a respected physician and Medical Director at Rogers Memorial, who says, "We must put the stigma of depression behind us and treat it with more than just medication." In this Health Corner, we find out about cutting-edge high resolution digital photography developed at Sloan Kettering by Dr. Allen Halpern, Chief of Dermatology Services, which is being used to track skin cancer and ultimately save lives.
Then, Alex Boylan visits Chef Scott Crawford at Woodlands Resort and Inn in Summerville, S.C. where Scott prepares chilled cucumber soup with tomato tartar. Jill Repp reassures parents that childhood phobias are normal – kids will outgrow them. Plus, Florida Perry Smith advocates workout gear that is both comfortable and fashionable.
