Angel Flights: Health Story

Aired on Superstation WGN
Saturday, August 27 and December 3, 2005
Show 222

"These pilots take care of us until we get to where we are going," says April Dodrill from Missouri, whose daughter was born premature and blind and needs a specialist in Michigan.

"This is easy for me because I like to fly and I'm helping someone out," says Joe Hicky, an Angel Flight pilot. "These flights really help a lot of folks who can't afford the flight," he says.

Nationwide, 6,000 private pilots donate their time, planes and skills to Angel Flight which enables patients to get to doctors. An Angel Flight pilot takes off every thirty minutes and 40 percent of the flights are for kids. Angel Flights handles more than 1,200 requests annually.

"These pilots are truly angels," says April.
