There aren't too many women around who can't tell you the basics of skin care. But ask the men in our lives the same question and they're pretty much clueless.
The shower is a great place for him to get started. And the best thing to start with is a mild soap, specifically designed for his face. Try introducing him to the loofa. Loofas are a great way to exfoliate skin. A great time to shave is immediately following a shower, since all the hot water softens the outer layer of the skin. Get him to throw out his bar of soap and have him try one of the great products available for shave prep.
Most guys shave way too fast. Ideally he should do two passes, once in the direction his beard is growing and once against the direction. This insures a nice close shave. After shaving, apply a non-astringent aftershave to sooth the skin and minimize pores.
A man's skin has a greater tendency han a woman's to be dry. So moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. There's some great products out there that do double duty and combine moisturizer with an SPF. Take the extra minute every day to slather on a moisturizing sunscreen. Whether he fishes, plays tennis or golf, make sure he applies sunscreen often. Retinol is just as good for preventing fine lines and wrinkles for a man's skin as it is for a woman's. Apply once before bed.
More men are turning to skin care professionals for help with skin problems. Most of the skin care companies now make products specifically for men's faces.
