We've all heard the rumors about water. Drink eight glasses a day. Drink more than eight glasses. Drink when you're thirsty, drink before you're thirsty. It can all get pretty confusing, especially when you add exercise to the mix. So, what's the best way to stay hydrated?
Dehydration means your body can experience low endurance and fatigue—certainly not good if you're training for a marathon. And because your body loses water when you're working out, even in cold weather, you need to keep rehydrating.
The best way to keep up on your fluids is to start even before you work out. Drink one to two cups of water every morning, and remember that cup of tea counts as water. And keep a bottle with you all day. Drink another one to two cups 30 minutes before exercise and then a half a cup to a cup every 15 minutes during your work out. And if you're really working hard for over 45 minutes, a sports drink can provide some extra energy and help replace lost electrolytes.
Keeping your body well hydrated is essential to a quality workout.
