Hundreds of pedestrian accidents happen every year and unfortunately, many of them involve children. But by teaching your kids the pedestrian's rules of the road you can keep them safe. Safe Kids Worldwide is spreading the pedestrian safety message to families with a list of tips.
If your child is under ten, he should never cross the street alone. If your child walks to school by himself, make sure you both decide on the safest and most direct way to get there. Always try to pick a route with sidewalks. But if they're not available, walk as far to the left as possible.
If your child needs to cross a street, teach him to always find a crosswalk and traffic signals. Look right and left to make sure it's safe to cross and walk, don't run.
If they're out at night your kids should always carry a flashlight and reflectors for their clothing are a must. Remember supervise your kids until they can follow the rules of pedestrian safety on their own.
