Lo Detrich Overcomes Cystic Fibrosis: Health Story

Aired on Lifetime Television

Sunday, June 18 and August 20, 2006
Show 316

Challenged time after time, Lauren Detrich-- who was born with cystic fibrosis-- continues to inspire others. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder that grossly shortens life. It causes thick mucus to accumulate in the lungs which causes infection and blockage. Lo takes 20-25 pills a day, uses inhalers and needs several hours of therapy. "You have to make the most of what you've got," she says. Lo and her parents have raised $50,000 for a search for a cure. They also wrote a book to inspire others titled, "The Spirit of Lo, An Ordinary Family's Extraordinary Journey." At 21 years old, Lo's disease has progressed, and she desperately needs a transplant. Even so, Lo says, "Every single year of my life has been a blessing."
