Alli. It's the latest word to hit everyone's weight loss vocabulary. So what is this Alli everyone seems to be talking about and is it a safe weight loss method? Alli, once a prescription only weight loss drug, is now the only FDA approved over-the-counter weight loss medication.
An Alli user, Anne Putterman was just like so many others, struggling with her weight and looking for a boost. She tried Alli when it was a prescription only medication and had great success. "It really was beneficial to me to lose the weight. And in the long run, I lost I would say probably a good 15 lbs.," says Anne.
However, dietitians want everyone to know that Alli, and every other weight loss medication, is not a magic bullet. Diet and exercise must accompany the medication for a healthy lifestyle. "Alli is being marketed as something that is an adjunct or helpful to a change in lifestyle, increased physical activity, a low fat diet, eating high fiber, eating lots of vegetables and fruit. All the things that a dietitian would advocate any way," says dietitian Cathy Nonas.
