Gabby Marx:
Dr. Lisa, why is my friend allergic to peanuts?
Dr. Lisa Thornton:
Peanut allergies can actually cause your throat to swell and close up and they can be very, very serious. Peanut butter and jelly—one of the best snacks in the world, right? But for someone with a peanut allergy, if you eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then touch them, you can actually make them very sick. And parents, you can help at home. If you know someone at your child's school has a peanut allergy, really try to avoid peanut containing foods or things that are even made in a factory where peanuts are processed.
