Barbara Teng thought at age 49 she was too young to have a heart attack but then found out, "One of my major arteries was 100 percent blocked." Thanks to the Sister to Sister Foundation, she found out just in time and received life-saving medical intervention. Sister to Sister was created to improve women's heart health through screenings. "We're the organization that focuses on action and making change today so that you don't end up like Barbara did in an emergency room with a heart attack," says Laurene McKillop, Sister to Sister's executive director. Since the organization's inception in 2000, more than 60,000 women have been screened for risk factors associated with heart disease. "I think it's a wonderful program. I brag often about them. And how it changed my life," says Corinne Lovelace, who learned she had high cholesterol through the Sister to Sister free screening program.
