Michaela Powell:
Dr. Lisa, why are we afraid of certain things?
Dr. Lisa Thornton:
We all have a fear of something, right? But some people have a fear that's so extreme that it makes their heart beat fast, their palms get sweaty and they start to breathe really fast. That is called a phobia. In medicine, we say it's an irrational fear, where it's way beyond what most people would feel. Like how some people can't even look out a window that's way up high because they're so afraid of heights. So, that's a phobia. Now, if you think you might have a phobia, it's really important to go to your doctor and check because there are some very good treatments for phobias.
