Fire Safety: Kids Corner
Aired on Lifetime TelevisionSunday, January 6 and February 17, 2008Show 501
What happens if you wake up and your house is on fire? It's scary enough for adults, but can you imagine how it can be for your children? Only ¼ of households have developed and practiced a home safety fire escape plan. Familiarize your child with the sound of the smoke alarm and teach them to act quickly. Your child should stay low, away from smoke or gases. Upon reaching a door, your child should feel the doorknob; if it's hot to the touch, he or she should find another exit, such as the bedroom window. Once everyone is out of the house and accounted for at a designated meeting spot, call 911. Your child should also know how to dial 911 for help. Rehearse that plan a few times a year, so everyone knows the drill.
