Feel Better Fast: Kids Corner
Aired on Lifetime TelevisionSunday, January 13 and March 2, 2008Show 502
When your child is home from school or daycare with some sort of cold or flu, you've got some work to do. First you've got to help them feel better -- and once they have, there's often another symptom to cope with: boredom. Start with some symptom relief. Make sure you ask your doctor or pharmacist for help choosing the right over-the-counter medication for your child's symptoms. Make sure your little one gets lots of sleep. Since body temperature can go from hot to cold to hot and back again, make sure your child's bed has plenty of layers. That way, he or she can peel them back when they start to sweat, or snuggle up again when those chills hit. After plenty of sleep and a relaxing few hours in bed, your child may get bored and restless. Try setting up a "sick bay" on the couch with your child's favorite books, games or movies. You'll be close enough to keep an eye of them and it's convenient for a steady flow of orange juice from the kitchen. The most important remedy just might be a few extra hugs and cuddles to keep them comforted. It might even make them feel well enough to go back to school tomorrow.
