"When I got the news I had cancer, I cried," says breast cancer survivor Diana Rowden. But her grief turned into positive action. First, she got well, and then she redefined her life. Two million American women have been treated for breast cancer. Diana started volunteering for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and now she is director of Koman's international programs. The foundation has a network of 160 affiliates staffed by an astounding 75,000 volunteers. Patricia Tosi, acting CEO at Komen says, "Our mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through the advancement of research, education, screening and treatment." "Survivors offer up hope and inspiration to carry on. They are our heroes," says a positive Diana. "Breast cancer has changed my life."
