So you're feeling fine, but when you blow your nose, you realize it's bleeding. Do you find it scary? Many do, but there's no need to panic. Fortunately, most nosebleeds are not a sign of anything serious. Dr. Lisa is joined by Walgreens pharmacist Helen Jung for some tips for you on how best to treat a nosebleed. Sit straight up, lean forward slightly, and gently pinch your nostrils for a few minutes. This reduces blood pressure to your nose and helps stop the bleeding. After the bleeding does stop, keep your head higher than your heart for a few hours to prevent recurrence. And give your nose a break! Don't blow or vigorously wipe it for a couple of hours at least. If the bleeding doesn't stop after 20 minutes of pinching your nostrils, or if you feel lightheaded or dizzy, call your doctor right away.
