For people who already have hypertension, some medications can spell big trouble. Walgreens pharmacist Sara Herman joins Dr. Lisa to explain how certain medications, including some over-the-counter pain relievers, can cause an increase in blood pressure. Some even conflict with medication designed to lower blood pressure. Aspirin and ibuprofen are two medicines that can do this, which is why people with hypertension should use acetaminophen for pain relief, which doesn't interfere with high blood pressure medication. People with hypertension should avoid decongestants altogether. As always, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have high blood pressure and need to take any medication.
