You can spray, vacuum, scrub, disinfect and use all the elbow grease you want, but the truth is, you'll never completely rid your home of allergens. But there are some effective room-by-room techniques that can make a real difference for your loved ones who have indoor allergies. Wash sheets, blankets and pillowcases every week in hot water to remove dust and dander, two major allergens. Wash plush toys and stuffed animals, too. Carpet and upholstery harbor dust mites – very common allergens. Vacuum carpets weekly. Keep your loved ones who have allergies out of freshly-vacuumed rooms for at least fifteen minutes to limit their exposure to newly-displaced allergens. When it's time to redecorate, consider replacing upholstered furniture with leather. In the kitchen, clean and disinfect the refrigerator regularly to prevent mold, and do the same to your sink in the kitchen, as well as the bathrooms. Make your home a safe, comfortable haven for everyone in your family, especially for your loved ones who have allergies.
