Expiration Dates: For Real

Aired on Lifetime Television
April 20 and June 1, 2008
Show 509

Michaela Powell:

Dr. Lisa, can you please explain to Gabby what an expiration date is?

Dr. Lisa Thornton:

Many foods, especially items like milk, yogurt and bread, can spoil. That's why many foods are labeled with an expiration date, the date that tells us by when we need to either consume the food, or throw it out. Eating a large amount of expired or spoiled food can lead to food poisoning, so be careful. The rule is, "when in doubt, throw it out."
