Bike Safety: Helmets
Aired on Lifetime TelevisionMay 18 and June 29, 2008Show 513
Michaela Powell:
Dr. Lisa, my sister Gabby and I are always very careful to wear a helmet every time we ride our bike. But are we wearing them correctly?
Dr. Lisa Thornton:
Good question! Your helmet should cover the front of your head and the back of your head. The snaps should be nice and snug so that the helmet doesn't move around on your head. Parents, it's important to remember that if the helmet doesn't fit correctly, it can't protect your child's brain properly. So check the fit from time to time and make sure the helmet fits exactly as it should. Kids should remember to wear their helmets not only when biking, but when skateboarding, rollerblading, and any time they're on wheels.
