An Unexpected Path: Andy & Elizabeth Meier

Sometimes a horrible accident can clarify what makes a full and healthy life. Andy Meier was paralyzed when the bus in which he was riding plunged off a cliff and into a river, half a world away from home. It turned his life and that of his family upside down. His wife Elizabeth has learned to – in her words—"make peace with where I am right now," as she assumed responsibility of care for Andy. Their relationship was heavily strained by the physical and emotional toll of the accident. Elizabeth says three things got them through: faith, because it keeps you hopeful; optimism, the ability to look on the bright side; and letting people in to help you. Miraculously, Andy – once told he was permanently paralyzed – is beginning to walk again and despite an exposed skull, suffered no brain damage. The entire ordeal has given Andy, Elizabeth and their children unexpected new perspectives on life, love and purpose.
