Two Oscars® and a top-10 TV show keeps Sally Field's life busy, so when she discovered she had osteoporosis, it was time to take control. "I have something really wonderful in my life, and that is I have an excellent, excellent doctor," Sally says, "he's been watching me for things that he thought were going to kick up at one point." One of them was osteoporosis, and a bone density test confirmed it. More than 25 million Americans have osteoporosis, where bones actually become brittle and can break without too much stress. Known as a "silent disease" because bone loss occurs without symptoms, osteoporosis is fortunately is very treatable.
