She's one of the fastest women in the world, and took home a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. But the road back to the 2008 Games hasn't been easy for Lauryn Williams. She stays focused with the help of her family and the determination to succeed. A large support system, including five sisters, two brothers and parents, has helped her – and not only with her running. Lauryn's father has cancer and needs dialysis. His treatment had meant he couldn't go to Athens to see his daughter perform in the Olympics – until the generosity of a stranger allowed it to happen. Lauryn draws inspiration and, as she says, "sometimes, someone who is a complete stranger is the one who comes in and changes your life. You have to be mindful of that every day when you're meeting someone." For all the goodwill she's received, she's inspired to give back. She mentors through the U.S. Track & Field's "Be a Champion" program and works with children to help them overcome obstacles and realize their potential.
