Top Chef: Sam Talbot

Aired on Lifetime Television
July 27 and September 14, 2008
Show 517

Whipping up a delicious dish is what "Top Chef" Sam Talbot does best; he's been in the kitchen since age thirteen. Around that time, Sam also learned he had type one diabetes. But he's never let his diabetes hold him back. Despite his hectic schedule, Sam's constantly monitoring his blood sugar – often eight to ten times a day, whether he's cooking, sleeping, fishing or wakeboarding. He leads a very busy life, and incorporates healthy eating and exercise into his daily routine. "My personal diet is a lot of vegetables and high protein," Sam says. When he's not in the kitchen, he devotes to time helping the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, raising money and awareness to help them find a cure. "I'm living proof you can lead an exciting, healthy life," Sam notes.
