Allergies: No Appointment Necessary
Aired on Lifetime Television for WomenSunday, April 9 and July 2Show 311
No matter the season, one of the questions I get a lot from my patients is what should I do about my awful allergies? Well, the only great way to keep your symptoms at bay is to get rid of the source. If pollen's your problem stay inside in the morning where the levels are highest. Don't dry your clothes outdoors. Keep your windows closed and keep the air conditioner on. For dust mites, use slip covers for your pillows and mattresses and wash your bedding in hot water once a week. To ward off molds, stop using bathroom carpetsand start using the exhaust fan when you shower. If you're still plagued by symptoms, try antihistamines to relieve sneezing, and itchy nose, throat and eyes. Decongestant drops and sprays may help your congestion, buy try not to use them for more than a few days, because that can make it worse. There are also over-the-counter and prescription nasal sprays that help prevent allergic reactions from even starting. Work with your doctor and pharmacist and you'll breathe a little easier.
