There's nothing worse than seeing your child down with a cold or the flu. Fortunately it's not serious. Lots of bed rest, liquids, and some TLC and your child will be feeling better in no time. Keep the telephone number for your pediatrician and pharmacist close by. And take your little one's temperature every three to four hours just to make sure they're on the road to recovery. Once they're feeling better, they may start getting a little impatient or antsy. Is there anything you can do to relieve the boredom? You bet. How about learning a new game? Nothing too complicated but a nice way to pass the time is to learn Go Fish or Old Maid. Or how about Chutes and Ladders or Candyland. They're classic, so easy to learn and lots of fun to play. Picture books and coloring books are essential too. Pick up some new ones at the store next time you go and put them away. Then surprise your little patient with a brand new book. It'll keep them entertained for hours. Something we like to do is watch family videos together. There's nothing more heart warming than seeing your young one gleam as they see themselves as babies. For older kids, try learning something new. Make flashcards with new words or different languages, then test each other. And don't forget the family pets. Fortunately, they can't catch your child's cold or flu. So bring them into the bedroom for a visit. Pets can bring a smile to their face and may even help shorten recovery time. Helping your children to feel better more quickly is easy, use your imagination and come up with some activities of your own. Before you know it, they'll be as good as new.
