Aired on Lifetime Television for Women
Sunday, September 10 and December 17
Show 324
Is it just me or do the holiday decorations appear earlier and earlier every year? And with more time to shop and prepare comes more time to worry about it. But you're not the only one feeling the holiday pressure. What should be a fun and relaxing time of year for your kids can turn into a few jam-packed weeks of chaos. There are many ways to avoid adding unnecessary stress to your family's holiday excitement. Don't over schedule. Just because you're invited to every party in the neighborhood doesn't mean you have to attend them all. Accept a few events and get your child's input on which ones they'd like to attend. Take the hype out of the holiday. Rather than taking the kids to the mall to buy gifts, encourage them to make presents at home. Teach them about the history and the meaning of the holiday you're celebrating. Your day will be a little less stressful if you spend it away from the crowd, but just in case, keep on hand some pain relievers and other over-the-counter medications for headaches and upset stomachs. Another idea-limit your kids' lounge time. Rather than keeping them occupied with the television while you bake, ask them to help you out in the kitchen or decorate the house together. It will keep them off the couch and you'll get some extra hands. Remember, if you're feeling the pressure, chances are your kids are feeling it too. Even though your to-do list might be a little longer than usual, try to stick with your normal sleeping and eating routines. It'll make for a happier and healthier holiday season.
