Dr. Roberto Olivardia:
Dr. Lisa's Interview

Aired on Lifetime Television for Women
Sunday, September 3 and December 10
Show 323

"Almost 10 percent of people with eating disorders are males," according to Dr. Roberto Olivardia, Harvard Medical School clinical psychologist and author of "The Adonis Complex." "Many men with eating disorders have a history of obesity and generally men don't seek treatment." Dr. Olivardia's book deals with a condition called muscle dysmorphia. "Muscle dysmorphia is a preoccupation with being muscular. This usually comes from low self esteem," says Dr. Olivardia. "What should parents look for?" Dr. Lisa asks. "Look for issues. But more important, talk to your children about how to be healthy," Dr. Olivardia says.
