Do you have Legos under your desk? Constant interruptions during your business calls? And a nagging sense of guilt, despite the fact that you decided to stay home with your kids? We have some sanity suggestions for you. First of all, you work two jobs from home. Being a mom and your paying job. We understand that, but your children may not. That's why experts say you should set time aside for kid stuff so they don't become resentful of your business, and act out at the worst times. Establish a routine, so they know when you'll be concentrating on earning money. Kids like routine. Make sure they understand some ground rules, like whether they can answer the phone. And the manners they need to have while you are on it. It's good to get your kids involved. If they can not answer the phone, think of something they can do to help. Pay them, they'll feel included and you'll get a little extra help. If you have a baby or a toddler and there's not much they can do to help your venture, give them a special set of toys to enjoy while you're at work. Being near you is often enough to keep them pacified. But plan on taking a break every once in a while for some interactive play. And, just because you stay at home does not mean you have to be the one constantly watching your child. There's no rule that says you can't have your little one and a babysitter in the next room. Hiring help now and then may cost you a little, but it may save you more in the end. Finally, stop beating yourself up. Think of all the parents with long hours and long commutes. You can reach out and touch your children any time you want.
