Six million women die of heart disease every year. "The Heart Truth Campaign is a natural awareness program alerting women to the importance of heart disease," says Dr. Elizabeth Nabel of the Heart Lung and Blood Institute. "Started four years ago by women with heart disease, the campaign works with physicians, corporate America, the fashion industry, celebrities and the Women of Color Initiative to help spread awareness," says Dr. Nancy Snyderman of Johnson and Johnson's Medical Affairs. You can lower your risk of heart disease by a whopping 85 percent just by leading a healthy lifestyle. The campaign's Red Dress Event inspires action. February 3, 2006, was national "wear red day. In 2007, the date will be February 2. "Pull out your red dress. You owe it to yourself, your loved ones, and your friends," says First Lady Mrs. Laura Bush, who is currently the campaign's national ambassador.
