Kids Ask Dr. Lisa:
Why Do I Crave Sugar?
Aired on Lifetime Television

Show 301
Michaela Powell and Alex Smith ask Dr. Lisa:
Why does stress make some people crave sugar?
Dr. Lisa answers:
Many people crave sugary foods when they're under stress. It's because these foods have something called carbohydrates. Now, carbohydrates are in things like sweets, potato chips and soda. They temporarily increase the level of a brain chemical called serotonin. Serotonin makes you feel good. But you can choose snacks that have more healthy carbohydrates-like air popped popcorn, an apple or banana. They will make you feel just as good. So try it!
