Aired on Lifetime Television
Sunday, June 25 and October 22, 2006
Show 317
Dr. Lisa talks one-on-one with Dr. Gary Small, author of The Memory Prescription. He reveals his top strategies for improving memory. "By flexing the brain muscles, you can subtract 20 years," he says. Dr. Small's memory fitness plan starts with relaxation exercises, then, memory exercises he terms, "look-snap-connect." "Look means focus your attention," he says. "Snap means taking mental snapshots, such as of the person you may be talking to. And connect is connecting your mental snapshot with a name, or whatever you're trying to remember." Dr. Small also stresses the importance of five small meals per day rather than a few large ones. "Small meals keep the blood sugar low." Taking a walk after dinner is also important. "It lowers stress and is a mild aerobic." Watch the full interview for more memory pointers.
