GI Relief:No Appointment Necessary
Aired on Lifetime TelevisionSunday, June 25 and October 22Show 317
WIt's a fact of life, most people have diarrhea several times per year. Diarrhea usually lasts just a couple of days. The most common cause is a virus called intestinal flu. Thankfully, once the virus has run its course, you will be back to normal in no time. There are several effective, over the counter medicines, like Pepto Bismol, Immodium, and Kaopectate in liquid and tablet form. You should also drink at least six eight-ounce glasses of fluid per day, like fruit juice without the pulp and electrolyte sports drinks or caffeine-free clear soda. Instead of drinking liquids with your meals, drink them between meals. And avoid eating solid foods as long as the diarrhea continues. Contact your doctor if you have prolonged diarrhea or a fever that lasts more than 24 hours. You should also see your doctor right away if vomiting keeps you from drinking liquids to replace lost fluids.
