Medications can lose their potency after they expire. So here's an easy to remember, three-step checklist to make sure your medications will always work when you need them. Step one, pick a date every year to check the expiration dates on your medicines. To help you remember, pick a holiday, or a family birthday and be sure to look everywhere you keep your medicines on hand. Step two, discard expired and unused old medicines properly and responsibly. Make sure you don't flush them because they can end up in the ground water. If you toss old medicines into the trash, keep them in their containers. Double bag and separate from food garbage. Now that you've cleaned out all the places you keep medications, it's time to restock. Make a personalized checklist for each member in your family. Follow this checklist and you'll always have effective medications on hand to take care of your family.
