Positive Pregnancy: That Certain Something

Aired on Lifetime Television

Every woman wants to look and feel beautiful during pregnancy. Stylish maternity clothes always help maintain that healthy glow, but there are a few other things you can do to solve the most common problems in pregnancy. You may feel itchy around your growing mid-section as your skin stretches. Pregnancy hormones may also be partly to blame. Be sure to avoid hot showers and baths, which can dry your skin and make the itching worse. Use mild soap and rinse it off well. Then generously apply moisturizer, preferably an unscented variety, because some scents can cause irritation. Try loose cotton clothing and avoid going out in the heat of the day, because heat may intensify itching. Next, you may get brownish, uneven marks on your face, something that's called the "mask of pregnancy." The discolorations usually go away after delivery. But remember, sunlight can darken pigment changes in your skin. Use a good sun block and cover up when outside. Finally, many pregnant women find that they wet themselves slightly with they cough, laugh or lift something. Your pelvic muscles are strained as they support the weight of your growing uterus. Toning the pelvic muscles will minimize the problem and help you recover after your baby is born. Meantime, an advanced protection line of absorbent pads designed for bladder and heavy menstrual protection can prevent embarrassment. Pregnancy can be wonderful. You can be especially beautiful and feel great with that certain something.
