Kids Ask Dr. Lisa:
Why Do People Sleep Walk?

Aired on Lifetime Television for Women
Sunday, October 1 and December 17
Show 325

Michaela Powell and Alex Smith ask Dr. Lisa:

We've all seen people sleep walking on TV before. So, Dr. Lisa, we want to know: What is sleep walking, and what makes people do it?

Dr. Lisa answers:

When people sleep walk in the movies or on TV, they do it with their arms out in front of them and their eyes closed. But in reality, sleep walking doesn't look like that. The person's eyes are usually open but they may look a little dazed because they're actually asleep. Now, sleep walking happens when a person's in what's known as slow way sleep or deep sleep. It isn't dangerous but if it happens every night, talk to your doctor about ways to get a better night's sleep.
