Michaela Powell and Alex Smith:
We want to know, why do we tend to get acne right before taking a big test? Does stress cause acne?
Dr. Lisa Thornton:
Stress can cause breakouts. Studies show it is probably because hormones are secreted when you have psychological stress, a test, a big dance. And as a teenager, your body does not regulate stress the same way as adults. Also, your body produces hormones at different levels and this is why your skin can be more oily. Plus, when you are stressed, you do not heal as easily, so blemishes hang around longer.
